Pappas Restaurant and Sports Bar
550 Cranbrook Rd, Cockeysville, MD Well, I finally had lunch at Pappas! My friends have told me they have the best crab cakes in MD. Now, I've been to Timbuktu. G & M and Jimmies, so that was a tall order when I was told they have the best crab cakes. The Cranbrook location is fairly new about 3-4 years at that location but Pappas has been a mainstay in Maryland for a very long time. They follow all successful restaurants by changing nothing to their signature dish "Crab Cakes? and no wonder, they are great! When you walk inside you step into the sports bar but we made our way to the tables.. I have to say I I was very excited to try their famous crab cakes. The atmosphere was contemporary for a sports bar but was very clean. I looked at the menu and it was easy to read. Now, I ordered the spinach with cheese spanakopita, the cream of crab and the double crab cake. It's is a relaxed atmosphere and our waiter was very courteous and professional. Very appealing and relaxed. The appetizer came and there was the spinanch and cheese spanakopita on one ide of the platter and on the other side was antipasto (olives, tomatoes, feta cheese, sliced peppers and red onions with a nice dressing). I nice addition and I wasn't expecting it. The cream of crab ws good, not to think and not to watery, perfect. The amount of lump crab meat, it could have had some more. But seasoned perfectly. Now, the double crab cake came. Presentation was perfect with French fries and fresh coleslaw. The minute I dug into the crab meat, there were oodles of lump crab, barely any filling and well seasoned but not over bearing with Ole Bay. perfect!. Perfect sized crab cakes and as I went through each one, just jumbo lump crab meat throughout the crab cake. This is the first time I hardly used tartar sauce. I could appreciate the natural flavor of the crab. I have to say this was a perfect lunch and I will definitely come back again. Sorry G & M, Timbuktu and Jimmies. You way to fr away. Pappas is a national crab cake institution in Cockeysville. On a scale of 1-5 with 5 being excellent, I give my rating of 5 to Pappas without a doubt. I recommend this place and I will be going back for more. Edgewood, MD Sometimes great opportunities come along to individuals that dream of opening their own restaurant. I had the opportunity to meet this great guys but most importantly a great ability to create delicious meals using his expertise, techniques and a passion to cook! It's my pleasure to introduce Ron Chicas. He has been given the opportunity to take over the Deck Crab House , Edgewood, MD. His passion of his cooking style is reflective of introducing new innovative products. I had the privilege of trying some of his new products. One of them was miniature crab balls with a tempura batter for extra crispiness. It's simply delicious. I ordered on another occasion the steamed crabs. Now, the Ole Bay mixture varies with each establishment but I have to say with "The Deck" Ole Bay mix wasn't to spicy or hot and not under flavored, the mix didn't drown out the flavor of the crab. "The Deck" has a full service bar with a professional staff that is courteous and polite. Ron is working hard to develop an introducing menu because he believes very strongly that if he offers a great tasting menu, then the crowds will come. It's the good tasting food that's most important right now. Right now Ron has a delicious Valentine Special! Appetizer Your choice of : Crab Dip Shrimp Potstickers Fried Oysters Soup/ Salad Cream of Crab French Onion Caesar Salad Garden Salad Entrees Braised Short Ribs with parsnips, mashed potato and snap peas Tequila Shrimp with fresh homemade tagliatelle pasta Chicken thighs with citrus cream sauce, baby bok choy & sticky rice Pan-seared sea bass with fennel, leek & fried maitake mushroom Dessert Brown butter cookie sundae with vanilla ice cream & homemade caramel sauce Homemade apple galette w ice cream Ron believes in making everything fresh. He knows customers know home made food! On a scale of 1-5 with 5 being excellent, I give "The Deck Crab House" a 5. Please visit "The Deck Crab House and tell Ron that you read Chef Woo Can's restaurant review and decided to try it. You won't be disappointed! Bel Air, MD Today, my curiosity got the better of me. It was lunchtime and I was craving something interesting but delicious and good value. Well, as I was driving in Bel Air, Popeye's hit my craving. I've heard so much about the Popeye's chicken sandwich. The mania is over when it was first introduced. Now, its been sometime, so I ventured in and order the combo meal which came with a side and I've had their coleslaw, but I have to note that as I approached the counter to order, the cashier just looked at me without greeting or welcoming me. Maybe their new but that is reflective of lack of professional training. Chic Fil A has them regarding courtesy and personality of their staff. Well, I got my meal and sat down. The table was a little dirty with crumbs. That should be addressed immediately, so maybe lack of training. I opened the sandwich bag and to my surprise the sandwich was huge. The chicken fillet was twice the size of Chic Fil A and with the very crunch batter and spice and that special sauce, it was fantastic. fabulous, simply mouth watering. THe coleslaw was made the same day with the cabbage so crip, not too sweet but so tasty. The only concern is where's the napkins. When I asked for some from the manager, he looked at me and said ""don't you see it near the beverage area?. If I saw it why would I ask. I saw that he saw my reaction and gave me a couple of napkins and said is ok. I have to say Popeyes's from the chicken sandwich standpoint is a home run compared to Chic Fil A but on the customer service, if they want to steal business away, thy better improve o their customer service. Today, product doesn't only sell but its the customer service that gets the rave. So, on a scale of 1-5 with 5 being excellent I give the rating of "5" but for customer service, no greeting from the cashier, table not wiped especially since they are brand new and when manager questions my integrity when asking for napkins on the same scale a "1".
