Margherita's Pizza
Bel Air, MD Pizza Pizza everywhere but where is the best pizza around. My daughter the "Pizza Expert" says this place has great pizza. She goes about ordering a pepperoni slice already made but just has to be heated up. The look in her eyes, wide open taking a bite and seeing the cheese stretch is simply amazing. I ordered the shrimp Gondola as an appetizer. It's sweet shrimp, not rubbery like most places surrounded by fresh garlic bread slices an in the middle a garlic wine sauce for dipping. Simply delicious! On another occasion I ordered the antipasta salad. Just as good, fresh, tasty and an equal combination of peppers, olives, mozzarella cheese. The place is very clean, the staff is professional and courteous. Highly recommend this place as the spot for pizza and other Italian fare. Somers Point, NJ If your craving for fresh seafood and you reside in NJ or are an out of town vacationer, you must visit the Crab Trap of Somers Point, NJ. It is in my estimation the freshess seafood I've had in a long time. You see my family and relatives come to Ocean City every year. It's a family resort. Other than the typical boardwalk food, this is the place to go after a full day at the beach. Dinner time is the best. But beware, the restaurant doesn't except reservations. So, if your planning to go to dinner at 6 PM, you need to arrive at the restaurant at 4 PM. There is plenty of seating outside and you can take a menu to check out all the goodies. Here is what we ordered and tried and highly recommend: Clams on the 1/2 shell. Fresh top neck clams shucked fresh, plump clam with a taste of the sea. Clams Casino: Whole clams topped with peppers and onion with a touch of wine and butter. Stuffed shrimp. Giant shrimp stuffed with a delicious crab meat stuffing. Whole Maine Lobster; Steamed perfectly Of course they do have steak and even at medium, there is a slight of pink that so tender and juicy. The atmosphere is quaint and the staff is professional. This year we were a party of 21 and the staff served us in a professional and friendly manner. We've been going there for the last 6 years and every time was pleasurable. Now after Labor Day, the hours have been reduced and the restaurant closes at 3 PM. I highly recommend this restaurant if your looking for good fresh seafood. Vacationing in Ocean City, NJ, you can't help but get the fast foods on the boardwalk. From funnel cake to Crabfries to tacos, to gyros , practically anything you can think of but sometimes you feel like something different and they now have Korean Cuisine on the boardwalk. THis place is spotless clean, they have 3 types of chicken wings that are excellent, crispy and very tasty. A change from the typical buffalo wings. There soy and garlic, honey and sesame and spicy. Excellent. The POKE. But consider this. To offer good quality sashimi, will cost you so don't expect a huge quantity. over a nice spring salad with a sweet vinergrette dressing, probably mirin and vinegar. They have lunch bowls of either rice or sweet potato noodles with marinated beef , scallion, peppers and onions. Not too much and not too little, just right. Simple delicious if your looking for a light fare not heavy. The dumplings were delicious, crispy with a soy sauce dip. Next year, consider visiting this place, you'll be glad you did. Tradition, that is Kohr's Custard ice cream. Why custard. Well, the ice cream is made with eggs giving it a very smooth ice cream. Kohr's custard is a mainstay of the Jersey Shore. Back in the late 60's to early 70"s , they were located in Asbury Park, NJ and moved after Asbury started to deteriorate. I think they re in Point Plesant although not exactly sure but most prominent in Ocean City, NJ. They are all over the boardwalk. So, after a fun day spent at the beach building up your hunger and having a delicious dinner, what best to end a otherwise perfect evening then to have a nice ice cream custard at Kohr's Custard and going to the amusement park and arcade. Kohr's was my first introduction to custard ice cream. I fell in love with the flavor and texture. Rita's comes close to offering custard but its just not the same. As a matter of fact Ritas taste too commercial. Kohr's is the best in my book, so I recommend it highly. By Chef Woo Can www.chefwoocan.com You may have heard about Manco Pizza in Ocean City, New Jersey. Surely the entire population of Philadelphia and the State of PA knows about it. They are located on the boardwalk of Ocean City, NJ, Not Ocean City, MD. The Ocean City, NJ is located in a dry county where no alcoholic beverages are served. You can bring your own to consume but really Ocean City is a family resort. I've been going there with my family and relatives for the last 6 years or so.
Manco Pizza is located all over the boardwalk. Go there for a slice and sit down by the counter or at the tables or bring a pie back to the beach and enjoy it with family and friends. Watch out the seagulls also love Manco pizza too. Last year my sister was eating a slice while she was talking and a seagull swooped down and literally took it out of her hands. While my brother and I were waiting for out pizza to bring back to the beach, I watched how its made. Yes, its made from scratch. They have their own special sauce and fresh shredded mozzarella cheese. Then the last step they have this water hose and siphon some water on the pizza service. To this day, I can't figure what that does to the pizza. Either it makes it saucier, I'm not sure but its delicious. So, the next vacation, if you want to really relax with family without all that routines, come to Ocean City, NJ. Lots of good food, lots of fun and the beach is wonderful. Bel Air, MD A new restaurant opened in Bel Air, MD. As many of you know they took over the establishment that was occupied by Famous Dave's Rib House. Unfortunately, Barbeque in Bel Air, is serious business and Famous Dave's just didn't cut it. Well, I took my daughter there for my birthday on Saturday and I have to say, it was packed. All new restaurant will always be busy because residents of Bel Air and the surrounding area are always looking for something different to eat. Food establishments need to know that unless they periodically change their menus, the public will get bored with the selection of foods being offered. Because we were 2 persons, we got seated rather quickly. If you are looking for a nice brew, there is a vast selection to choose from. The menu was clear nd had lots of variety. I ordered the fish and chips. I'm used to cod fish in fish and chips but I understand that cod has been over fished. My daughter order the ribs. As kids, their eyes are bigger than their mouths. She wanted to try the Bavarian pretzel with a cheese and mustard sauce. I tried to counter with a small salad. Nice setting and very clean as expected for a new restaurant. Great place to watch any sporting event. Great time for NFL Football and Orioles baseball. Every angle is covered from a viewing standpoint. We got our order, the fish and chips was huge. 3 people could share one order. My daughter's ribs came, baby back ribs and she demolished it, must have been good!. I inquired about the pretzel and the server forget to put that order in, so he graciously took the blame and I wasn't charged. The salad was huge and very basic iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and onions with croutons. I asked for a sesame honey dressing. The salad could be shared by three people. The batter on my fish and chips was light yet crispy, a little oily but still good. Other places that offer fish and chips either has a thicker batter or very thin fillet of white fish. In terms of fish, the fish pieces were huge and the batter complemented the fish being thin and crispy. My daughter's baby back ribs were great or she was really hungry. She says Famous Dave's was better. Note we are originally from New York, so I can't really say. The drinks were unlimited. The raspberry ice tea was refreshing and delicious. The atmosphere was pleasant for a long weekend atmosphere. The server was very pleasant and professional. He made sure everything was ok and saw that the salad wasn't touched and he credit the salad, so nice of him. My daughter was very happy about what the waiter did and felt he was always smiling and pleasant. She would return mostly because of the service. Overall, I felt that as a new restaurant, it was a great place. The food was good, huge servings, so a party of 4 can share any dish and be full. Other than fish and chips being slightly oily, it still was good in terms of ish quantity. CHEF WOO CAN RATING (out of 5 being the best) 4. I'll visit again to see if the standards are still kept high. By Chef Woo Can www.chefwoocan.com |
