Miller's Ale House
Bel Air, MD A new restaurant opened in Bel Air, MD. As many of you know they took over the establishment that was occupied by Famous Dave's Rib House. Unfortunately, Barbeque in Bel Air, is serious business and Famous Dave's just didn't cut it. Well, I took my daughter there for my birthday on Saturday and I have to say, it was packed. All new restaurant will always be busy because residents of Bel Air and the surrounding area are always looking for something different to eat. Food establishments need to know that unless they periodically change their menus, the public will get bored with the selection of foods being offered. Because we were 2 persons, we got seated rather quickly. If you are looking for a nice brew, there is a vast selection to choose from. The menu was clear nd had lots of variety. I ordered the fish and chips. I'm used to cod fish in fish and chips but I understand that cod has been over fished. My daughter order the ribs. As kids, their eyes are bigger than their mouths. She wanted to try the Bavarian pretzel with a cheese and mustard sauce. I tried to counter with a small salad. Nice setting and very clean as expected for a new restaurant. Great place to watch any sporting event. Great time for NFL Football and Orioles baseball. Every angle is covered from a viewing standpoint. We got our order, the fish and chips was huge. 3 people could share one order. My daughter's ribs came, baby back ribs and she demolished it, must have been good!. I inquired about the pretzel and the server forget to put that order in, so he graciously took the blame and I wasn't charged. The salad was huge and very basic iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and onions with croutons. I asked for a sesame honey dressing. The salad could be shared by three people. The batter on my fish and chips was light yet crispy, a little oily but still good. Other places that offer fish and chips either has a thicker batter or very thin fillet of white fish. In terms of fish, the fish pieces were huge and the batter complemented the fish being thin and crispy. My daughter's baby back ribs were great or she was really hungry. She says Famous Dave's was better. Note we are originally from New York, so I can't really say. The drinks were unlimited. The raspberry ice tea was refreshing and delicious. The atmosphere was pleasant for a long weekend atmosphere. The server was very pleasant and professional. He made sure everything was ok and saw that the salad wasn't touched and he credit the salad, so nice of him. My daughter was very happy about what the waiter did and felt he was always smiling and pleasant. She would return mostly because of the service. Overall, I felt that as a new restaurant, it was a great place. The food was good, huge servings, so a party of 4 can share any dish and be full. Other than fish and chips being slightly oily, it still was good in terms of ish quantity. CHEF WOO CAN RATING (out of 5 being the best) 4. I'll visit again to see if the standards are still kept high. By Chef Woo Can www.chefwoocan.com |
