1. Miss Saigon Pho & Boba Aberdeen, MD
To start I asked some of my 4 students that attended my class a couple of sessions. The general consensus is the love of food especially exotic food than what is being offered to us as a society. We agreed to meet the 1st Friday of every month. These guys come various backgrounds, 4 of us are retired Baby Boomers and one is still working. Miss Saigon is a fairly new establishment and we decided to try it out. From what they heard from me, why not, if Chef Woo can says its good, let's give it a try. The restaurant is Vietnamese and therefore, their Beef Pho is on the block. Vietnamese food has been very popular for a couple of years and we know good Pho. They should I made my version for class the short cut way. All of us ordered the Beef Pho was everything in it. Beef slices, beef balls, beef tendons, beef tripe, lots of rice noodles, fresh Thai Basil, Jalapeno peppers, fresh bean sprouts and a beef broth that had a hint of cinnamon and star anise along with onion and ginger. Appetizers we all had the pork spring rolls with a sweet chili sauce for dipping. The pho took awhile, so I'm guessing, its being made fresh per order. When t finally came out, it was pipping hot. Added a squeeze of Hoisin and Sriracha Chili sauce and added the Thai Basil leaves, bean sprouts and jalapeno peppers and stirred it up and the flavor combination of the broth was complex but so delicious, and tasty. The bean sprouts provided the crunch, the jalapeno provided the spicy and the Thai Basil the sweetness along with the beef flavored broth and you have a bowl of delicious Pho on a chilly evening.
The general consensus from all of us was a thumbs up. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being excellent, I give Miss Saigon Pho & Boba Restaurant a 100 score. It is that good for the area. Visit them and tell the owner "Chef Woo Can" highly recommends his place.

2. Iron Age Grill Cantonsville, MD
In the mood for Korean or have you heard about the famous Korean grill your own beef? Well, when was the last time you can eat all you want in 1 1/2 hours? All the beef, all the chicken, pork and seafood for a very cheap price. and all the small dishes of pickled turnip, glass noodles and a salad with a nice spicy sweet sauce. Well, then you have to visit Iron Age Grill in Catonsville, MD. If you know where Walmart, the Double T Diner, its just a little ways down after you pass these landmarks. Iron Age Grill will be located in between a Indian Supermarket to the right and the "Hub" to the left where there are additional vendors selling their specialties like Boba drinks, Cakes, Korean Corn Dogs, Koren Fried Chicken all sorts of goodies. But to night our focus was Iron Age Grill. When we entered all parties had to be presented before we were seated. We arrived at around 5:30 to 5:45 pm, perfect time to avoid the crowds especially on a Friday. The establishment is huge with gigantic movie screens all over showing K Pop music, sort of like Korean MTV, our server was prompt, introduced himself, and immediately asked us if we knew what meats we wanted to start off with. I told him we wanted to start off with a bottle of Koren flavored Vodka Peach "Soju" and 5 shot glasses. The guys heard about "Soju" but only one of them actually had it when he was in Korea but it wasn't flavored so he enjoyed the taste. All of us said as we toasted the shots that it was very smooth. I ordered the beef Bulgoggi which was marinaded. It came out on a huge plate and the server plopped it on the natural gas grill. He raised the heat and we turned the meat over a couple of times for uniform cooking. Then I told him to bring the sweet potato noodles, salad, a couple of dishes of the pickled radish, bowls of rice and dipping sauces. We kept our server very busy. All we said was just keep on refilling everything up. We tried the pork belly, various type of marinaded beef flavors, an order of shrimp with shell and head on and in the final analysis, we were stuffed to the gills. The guys didn't know what to expect but I can say they were pleasantly surprised. I told them, leave some room as we were going to visit the Hub next door. I was going to pickup Korean Chicken wings for my darling daughter, soy and garlic flavored and my other buddy ordered wings to for his family. I said you can't go wrong. Another buddy ordered a Boba tea but they all were enlightened since they seldom leave Harford County. It was a way to explore different foods and see another part of Maryland. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being excellent, I give Iron Age Grill a 100 grade. They are that good. Oh, forget, the price we had to pay each was $ 29.00 plus add in drinks like Soju and we split it 5 ways. Easy!
